The mother said, to her nearly 4 year, old son, “Tell the lady which church we go to.”
After some thought he replied, “The yellow one.”

Overheard while letting children know about Children's Church at Starship

Starship Storytelling Schools

When I hear a quote like the one above I am so glad I work with children. I have been to the Starship Hospital Children's Church to tell the story twice in the last six weeks and both times have been quite different.     The first time was to tell the story of the ten commandments. There was only one child present and she was enthralled by the way Moses received them and that they are still good laws today. Then last night, I told the story of  “Rocky,” the stone that David used to slay Goliath.
As result of someone seeing me do a storytelling workshop for Bible in Schools teachers and then taking 6 assemblies out west I was invited to do a workshop with the children's ministry team at Church Unlimited. With a volunteer team of over 50 and incredible facilities as well as 2 employed staff for children's ministry they are blessed However, their biggest struggle is Bible “literacy”. So I was very privileged to be a part of the process of helping to improve that. On the down side, I was asked to consult with a church where the children's ministry is flagging and their main struggle is finding people to lead the ministry
Then total joy at being in a school opening the  Bible.  Gill came home and shared that a mum of a boy in Thomas' class, which I teach, had asked her what church we go to as her son was enjoying Bible in schools so much that she would like him to go to church.  They don't go to church but she asked if we could take her son with Thomas to church when we go.

Small Snow Smiles

Camp was small, it snowed while we were at camp and the smiles on the children's faces said it all.  The first Angel Tree – SUPAkidz camp was a great success. Although we had only 14 children on camp (we would have liked more), there was plenty of enthusiasm, fun and questions. The smiles on the parents' and caregivers' faces when they came to collect children was just uplifting to see.
We have subsequently heard of children who were at camp who have returned to attending church regularly with a number of children going for the first time and then asking their mates to go with them the next week.
We actually had snow twice at camp and also had lots of fun throwing snow when we did our bush walk. It really was cold and yet the warmth with which the leaders cared for the children and participated in every aspect of camp was such an encouragement to see. Thanks Raewyn and Pip for all your hard work.

Sleepless

There was great excitement as the boys went back to school as they, with Gill, were part of the group of 250 people who spent a night at the Mt Lyford Ski Resort due to heavy snow and bad weather.  They were looked after but sleeping arrangements where challenging to say the least. Gill did not get much sleep and when Chris woke at 2am needing to visit the toilet which was outside the building with a snow storm raging it made an even more eventful adventure.  While all this was happening I was on camp.  It was a great adventure for the boys. Click the picasa logo below to check out pictures of the adventure.

Sleeping sleeping
When we got stuck up Mt Lyford I got to sleep on a table as it was too crowded for everyone to stretch out on the floor. I thought it was great fun and did sleep.

Snowboarding snowboarding
The morning after we woke up at Mt Lyford they said we could use any equipment we liked free. So I tried everything.  I snowboarded, then skied, then tobogganed and then tried them all again.

Solving solving
I have been chosen for our school's Mathex team. There are eight of us who will be given problems to solve at the Mathex event.  I am also back playing water polo and loving it.
